Water of Tyne
Collected by John Bell (1783-1864)
As taught to me by Frankie Archer
I cannot get to me love if I would dee
For the water of Tyne runs between him and me
So here I must stand with a tear in my ee
Both sighin’ and sickly, my true love to see
Oh where is the boatman, my bonny hinny?
Oh where is the boatman? Oh, bring him to me
To ferry me over the Tyne to my honey
Or scull him across the rough river to me
Oh bring me the boatman, I’ll pay any money
And you for your trouble rewarded shall be
If you ferry me over the Tyne to my honey
And I will remember the boatman and thee
